Gradall Forklift Part - During the time when World War II created a shortage of laborers, the well-known Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force due to the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Burbank construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available laborers so as to carry out the delicate work of grading and finishing on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build an equipment that would save their company by making the slope grading work easier, more efficient and less manual.

Their first design prototype was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform that was attached over a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward that allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Shortly enhancing the initial design, the brothers built a triangular boom to add more strength. What's more, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the back of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the equipment to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.

The year 1992 marked a momentous year for Gradall with their launch of XL Series hydraulics, the most remarkable change in the company's excavators since their creation. These top-of-the-line hydraulics systems enabled Gradall excavators to provide high productivity and comparable power on a realistic level to conventional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems efficiently handled grading and finishing work but had a difficult time competing for high productivity work.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their lifting and digging ability. These versions were made along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed great improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators use an operator in order to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the work at hand. This makes the operator's whole work easier and also saves fuel at the same time.

As soon as the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial machine market that are designed to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating as well as various industrial tasks. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
